ReServe Connects Bronx Job Seekers with Employers

Over 200 Job Seekers Attend ReServe Job Fair; Nearly 30 Businesses and Organizations Participate

Bronx, NY—ReServe hosted a job fair on January 11, 2023, at Fordham-Bedford Community Services in the Bronx where 27 businesses and organizations participated, and over 200 job seekers attended. By the end of the day, six job offers had been extended and numerous other attendees were lining up interviews for jobs ready to be filled.

Employers and organizations in attendance included: Amazon, American Red Cross, Destination Tomorrow, Year Up, AirNYC, Fidelis Care, MVT Marking, Wildcat Service Corp., Dennelisse LHCSA, Montefiore SHR, Hero Dads, Phipps Neighborhoods,  Lantern Community Services, NYC Department for the Aging, NYC Commission on Human Rights, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, NYC Administration for Children Services, and the NYC Police Department.

At the end of the event, six job seekers were hired on the spot, with many more receiving interviews and follow-up opportunities.

The outreach effort for the job fair was led by John Sherman, ReServe’s Community Health Worker Supervisor, and people throughout the Bronx found out about the event from fliers, advertising on social media, and word of mouth.

The job fair was a result of work ReServe is undertaking addressing the social determinants of health in the Bronx and the wide disparities in neighborhoods hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. In listening sessions with the community, ReServe learned that the number one community concern was food insecurity, followed by the lack of employment opportunities.

ReServe set out to address both by collaborating with various food pantries and hosting this job fair.

The Bronx Borough President, Vanessa L. Gibson, supported this event, and was represented by Kenny Agosto.

AirNYC, which is an organization with funding to address COVID-19 disparities, sent representatives. “The job fair is definitely properly planned in detail,” said Alexa from AirNYC. “We are grateful to be part of this job fair by ReServe. In terms of applicants, we definitely found great and interesting candidates for the roles that we have available at AirNYC.”

NYC Commission on Human Rights is another institution which is engaged in work to promote human primacy, including protection, privacy and fulfillment regarding equality and nondiscrimination. The organization protects all individuals of any age from any form of discrimination including housing, employment, public assistance, among others. “It was excellent, one of the biggest job fairs that I have ever been to,” stated Orlando Torrez, vendor from the Commission of Human Rights.

There were multiple vendors that were present at the job fair, to cater to every area that needs to be occupied in the respective companies. As one job seeker stated, “There were so many organizations present and to see ReServe do something like this. It's beautiful to see this. I hope to join and set up here at the next job fair.” “There were many job opportunities available,” another job seeker said.

“The job fair was very helpful and informative, but I was interested in the police department. I just signed up to be a police officer!” This individual was recruited to join the police academy and successful completion would lead to working for New York’s Finest.

Prior to the job fair at Fordham-Bedford Community Services, ReServe hosted a resume prep workshop prior to the job fair.

The next job fair will be held in on April 26, 2023. Register now.
